The Person

Ask anybody how they remember Pam Duncan, and the answer you will hear most often is "compassionate and caring."  Most will also mention her sweetness, selflessness, and energy.  But there simply aren't enough words to adequately tell of her tireless dedication to our youth, our community and our church.

Pam's love for the Lord, her servant's heart, her infectious smile and her 'can-do' attitude were her trademarks.  Although we miss her greatly, we praise God for placing Pam here in our midst for a season.  What a blessing she was to us all.  We take great comfort in knowing that one day we will fellowship with her again, for eternity.

The Scholarship

In honor of Pam's memory and to continue her legacy of service to others, a group of friends has established a scholarship fund to assist deserving high school graduates in attending college or trade school.  The scholarship will be administered by the Pam Duncan Memorial  Scholarship Committee.  Church members Richard and Terri Farris serve on the Scholarship Committee, and Malcom Jetton has agreed to act as Trustee.

The Pam Duncan Memorial Scholarship fund was established in 2009 and will be awarded for the first time in the Fall of 2014.  This will allow funds and contributions to grow to a level that will insure the fund's perpetuity from that time forward.

The award will be a one year scholarship in the amount of one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) divided into two equal $500.00 installments, payable at the beginning of the Fall and Spring school semesters of the award year.

The Requirements - How to Qualify

The Pam Duncan Memorial Scholarship is designed to recognize a graduating high school student from our community each year who exemplifies the characteristics and qualities of Pam Duncan.  Those qualities include but are not limited to high moral character, service to others, selflessness, commitment to community, and noteworthy personal accomplishments.
  • Applicant must be a Sedalia Elementary School K-6 alumnus or an active member of Sedalia Baptist Church.

  • Applicant must have maintained a cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.5 or better (out of 4.0) for at least seven semesters of high school.

  • Applicant must submit, at the time of application, an essay of no fewer than 200 words on the topic "What it means to be a servant."

  • The final award decision will be made by the Scholarship Committee, based on the criteria above plus an evaluation of each applicant's history of activities in service to their school, faculty, fellow students, church, and community.

  • Proof of registration and enrollment at an approved college or trade school must be submitted for each semester prior to distribution of funds.  Upon completion of this requirement, funds will be paid directly to the student.

  • You may request an application from the Scholarship Committee in person, by mail, or by email.
Should it happen that two or more competing applicants are very closely matched, the Scholarship Committee will make the final determination of the winner, based on merit.  In such cases, additional requirements may be imposed, such as a second essay or a request for more information.  In any event, the decision of the Scholarship Committee shall be final and without recourse; however, the Scholarship Committee reserves the right to amend any decision, should any serious error or oversight be discovered.
